We are almost done with summer reading now. July 31st we had the Bi-Folkal kit “Remembering School Days” for the adult ladies in town.
August 1st the kids made their own puzzles. Each child was given a blank puzzle and makers and stencils to make it their own.
August 2nd both the librarians were gone. They were in Topeka attending the annual Tech day to learn what new and upcoming.
Stained Glass or Window Stickers
On Thursday, July 26th the kids were invited to the library to make window stickers or paint stained glass window ornaments.
When more than 15 kids show up in this small library to do a craft you have to offer more than one craft. This time the kids got to either paint a stained glass window ornament or make a window sticker.
The kids here in Richmond seem to really enjoy doing crafts. So this library has done most of it’s summer reading programs this way the past couple of years. It seems to work for us.…

Richmond Library Wins 1st Place
Richmond Public Library had a float in the Richmond Fair Parade again this year. The theme for the parade this year was “Salute America”. The library chose “Richmond Library Salutes America’s Armed Forces” as the title of it’s float.
The Float featured a plane for the Air Force, a tank for the Army, a ship for the Navy and guns for the Marines. Our float won 1st place. Riding our float were area library children and Tina Harkins and Jacob Akes who both served time in Iraq and Kuwait.
Library Receives Libri Book Grant
The Richmond Public Library is a 2007 recipient of the Libri Grant. The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization which
donates new, quality, hardcover children’s books to small, rural public libraries in the United States through its BOOKS FOR CHILDREN program.
The Foundation works with the library’s Friends of the Library or other local organizations because we believe in community involvement and want to encourage and reward local support of libraries. The Friends, or other local sponsors, can contribute from $50 to $350 which the Foundation matches on a 2-to-1 ratio. Thus, a library can receive up to $1,050 worth of new, quality, hardcover children’s books through the Foundation’s BOOKS FOR CHILDREN program.
Thanks to the Libri Foundation and the Friends of the Richmond Library group the library has received 38 new hardcover children’s books. Books this library would not have been able to afford without help from others. It takes a lot of support to keep a library open.
A list of these new books along with others the library has purchased or received in the last month can be found on our new books and movies section.
