Valentine craft day

The Richmond Public Library had a few things going on in the month of Februrary.

February is the month of Valentines day so in honor of this the library had a Valentine’s Day craft day. On Monday Feb. 12th kids were invited to come and make Valentines and tissue paper flowers.

The kids were told these Valentines were not for them, they had to give them away to someone. Their parents, grandparentes, teachers or friends.

On Wendesday, February 14th the teens were invited to come and make Chocolate to give away. This seems to be very popular with the kids.

Of coure they were allowed to eat some of the Chocolate.

Kansas Reads to Preschoolers week is November 12th -18th. This is the second year for this event, it is held the same week as National Children’s book week and National Education Week.

This year the book chosen by the commitee was Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells, it’s a Max and Ruby book. Max & Ruby want to make a cake for grandma’s birthday. They have very different idea’s as to what the cake should be.

To celebrate this week the library had a special story teller for story hour. Nadine Poss from Poss Real Estate here in Richmond, she consented to come and read the story to the kids. Nadine also made a donation to the library which was used to purchase a copy of the book for each of the story hour kids.

After the story the kids made bunny chalkboards out of CD’s and felt. After the craft they decorated cupcakes with pink icing and candy hearts and gummy worms. The kids and Nadine really enjoyed themselves.

Many thanks to Nadine Poss for her generosity and for reading to the kids.

October at the Library

  • by

It’s the month of October at the Richmond Public Library and what are we up to?

Making BAt Mobiles
In October there is always a Halloween Craft Day. This year it was on Monday, October 23rd @ 5:00. The kids got to make Bottle Cap Spiders [very cute], Glow-in-the-Dark ghosts [yes they really glow] and Bat Mobiles, the kind you hang, not the kind you drive. The kids really like making crafts in our small town, so we try to make them at least every major holiday.

Story Hour trick-or-treaters

On Wednesday, October 25, 206 the Story hour kids went Trick-or-Treating. Every year the Richmond Public Library story hour kids trick-or-treat  the businesses on Central street. Central is Richmonds main street. The kids go from business to business and trick-or-treat. I am not sure who has more fun, the kids or the business people.

In October there is also a Haunted House in Richmond. Not at the library, but the libraries two librarians can be found there. There is also a city counsil member, and ex library board memeber and most year Richmond’s city clerk [She got married Sept. 30th so will not be helping this year]. This year the Haunted House people have decided to give a donation to the library.
