Edelweiss hats, Patriotic Gourds and Banks

We are half way through the 2011 Summer Reading program. The kids are reading, the adults are reading. It seems to be going pretty good so far.The last week of June we made German Edelweiss hats, the kids picked the color for their hats, flowers and feathers, then folded them into shape.

Up next were the adults painting patriotic gourds. These gourds were displayed in the library window during the 4th of July holiday weekend.

On July 6th the kids colored banks, then folded them into a square and taped the ends, they were then ready to take them home and ask their parents for money. LOL

Up next? God’s Eye’s , Japanese Fans and Mediterranean Masks.

Didgerdoos, Boomerangs, Fear Factor & Worry Dolls “Oh My”

Wednesday, June 22 was Australian craft day, we made didgeridoos and decorated boomerangs. The kids had fun making noise with their didgeridoos. Some of the kids went outside and practiced making their boomerangs fly. They sure seemed to have a lot of fun with this craft.

Thursday, June 23 was Fear Factor Food day, this was for the older kids. With the summer reading theme in mind we had foods from around the world. There was pickled lettuce [yum yum] Escargots, Guava juice, chili peas and more. Some of the kids were pretty funny, looking at the food and making faces, but others were like just give it to me and lets get it over. We had a score sheet so we could crown a clear winner. Kagen Gamberel was crowned King for the Fear Factor Foods, with Mo Lopez coming in second and Chris Snow third, these 3 boys are the only ones who made it all the way.  Congratulations Boys!!

Friday, June 24 was Guatemalan Worry dolls for the adults. Worry dolls are to be placed under a persons pillow to take all their worries away.  The adults had fun with these! The kids will be making this craft the end of July.

It was a busy week at the library, but it was fun!…
