Whatever You Geek, The Public Library Supports It All!

Public libraries inspire and empower. Everyone is welcome. Almost anything can be explored. And they play an important role for individuals and for communities.

This weekend the Library is having their semi-annual Garage sale, along with the sale we will be starting our GEEK campaign. So come join us at the Richmond Community Building Friday, September 9 from 3 to 7  p.m.or Saturday, September 1o from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. Se what the library is all about.

According to the American Library Association, approximately 70 percent of public libraries report that they are the only source of free public access to computers and the Internet in their communities. And for millions of Americans, the public library is their only access.

Last year, librarians helped millions of people find out more about what they geek, discover new interests and search for jobs online. Librarians are passionate about your community, they are passionate about what you geek and they are passionate about you.

 

In addition to traditional library resources, such as books and children’s programs, many libraries offer innovative geeking opportunities for teens and adults. Live online homework help, genealogy research or a financial planning class anyone?

More jobs, higher property values, better schools, increased wages … the public library plays a role in all of it. Many studies support the idea that dollars spent on libraries provide solid economic returns to the community.

As the economy continues to struggle, many libraries are transforming into job centers. Online job application assistance is only the tip of the iceberg. Some libraries are developing specific job searching areas with helpful resources such as online job searching portals to help people sort through the clutter and get back to work faster.

Garage Sale and Taco Dinner

The Richmond Public Library is having a garage sale on Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10 at the Richmond Community Building. Friday hours will be 4:00 – 7:00. The Friends of the library will also be having a Taco dinner during the sale on Friday. Saturday hours will be 8:00- 3:00 and the Friends will be having a bake sale during these hours.

If you have items you would like to donate to the garage sale please contact the library or one of the current library board members. There will be lots of books since we are in the process of weeding to help us get ready for automation. Please come by and support your library.…
