The Learning Tree

The state of Kansas is having its first “One-state-one-book” program for adults this year. The book that was chosen is “The Learning Tree” by Gordon Parks. The program runs from January 29th through April 30th 2007.
Since this library does not own the book we have interlibrary loaned the book a few times and have been passing it around to those who are interested in reading it.
This library does own a copy of the movie and on Tuesday, March 20th the adults in town were invited to the watch the movie. The movie was shown at the United Methodist Church here in Richmond. Those that attended seemed to enjoy the movie. Many thanks to the church for letting us use their room.…
Spring Flowers

On Monday, March 19th kids were invited to the library to make spring flowers. The flowers were easy to make and the kids seemed to enjoy making them. There were about 16 people here and in a library this small that’s a lot. This was the first of our “Spring Break” week. Tomorrow we are showing the movie “The Learning Tree” for the adults. The movie will be shown at the United Methodist Church here in Richmond @ 2:00.

Spring Break @ the Library
The library has plans to have something for everyone during Spring Break this year.
Spring break will be recognized as the same as Central Heights. The week of March 18th through March 24th
On Monday, March 19th @ 4:30 the library will be having a craft day.
On Wednesday, March 21st @ 3:00 the library will have an “Obstacle course”, which will be set up at the city park. If the weather is bad this event will be canceled.

Tuesday, March 20th the adults are invited to the United Methodist Church in Richmond to watch the movie “The Learning Tree”. The movie will be shown at 2:00 p.m. with refreshments served.

Friday, March 23rd @ 2:00 the library will be having a “Guitar Hero’s” competition. This event will be for the teens & tweens, kids ages 11 – 19. Kids will need to sign up and select which level they will be playing on.

new book reveiw
If you haven’t had a chance to read any of Lee Child’s books about Jack Reacher, you need to do so. The library has 9 of the 10 books and are franticly looking for number ten. These books are about a ex MP who manages to somehow let trouble find him. He then uses his experience as an MP to get himself out and help lots of people along the way
February @ the library

The Richmond Public Library had a few things going on in the month of Februrary.
February is the month of Valentines day so in honor of this the library had a Valentine’s Day craft day. On Monday Feb. 12th kids were invited to come and make Valentines and tissue paper flowers.

The kids were told these Valentines were not for them, they had to give them away to someone. Their parents, grandparentes, teachers or friends.
On Wendesday, February 14th the teens were invited to come and make Chocolate to give away. This seems to be very popular with the kids.
Of coure they were allowed to eat some of the Chocolate.

Tuesday, Feburary 20th the adult ladies in town were invited to watch the “The Joys and Syrprises of Telling your Life story” video, provided by the Northeast Kansas Library System.

After the video the ladies enjoyed telling their own stories and showing some pictures to each other.
On top of all the librarians and some board memebers also attended a few workshops this month.
A Technology workshop in Lawrence on Tuesday,February 6th. A Interlibrary Loan workshop on Thursday, February 8th in Topeka. And the annual Summer Reading workshop in Feburary 21st in Topeka.
It’s been a very busy month at the library!…
