The 2006 summer reading program has come to a close. This year there were 46 preschool through 6th grade kids signed up for the younger kids program. These kids read or listened to 1,599 books this summer.
In our teen program we had 21 teenagers signed up. These kids actually read books this summer. They read a total of 297 books. This is the group that would normally not pick up one book all summer let alone read the book. We here at the library are very proud of our teens this summer. Keep on reading kids.
The adult program had 22 enrolled. They did not have the programs the kids did but they usully llike to read anyway. These adults read a total of 263 books this summer.
The time for school to start has come and the summer reading program has ended. We ended the program with our annual Treasure Hunt. Even in triple digit weather the kids came out for this fun event. the kids followed the map, got the keys and clues and found the treasure. They were then rewarded with treasure bags, treats and lemonade.
Certificates were handed out the all those who read at least 20 books this summer. Kids who finished the required books recieved a free book it pizza certificate from pizza hut and a free ice cream cone certificate from Dairy Queen. Kids who read or listened to the most books this year were Justin Springer from the older kids group who read 87 books. Riley Roll from the younger kids group who read 137 books. Damien Weber from the preschool group who listened to 146 books. Congratulations kids.
